Easy Valentine Shelf Sitter Craft

A craft you can make!

Although I usually don't decorate for Valentine's Day, I thought I'd join in and present a very easy peasy craft for your home decor. I like easy. I also like to upcycle things that I already have on hand. When I make things to sell or to give as gifts, I make them permanent with permanent glues and fixatives. For this little project, I went shopping in my house and as you may already know, nothing is ever permanent here!

I did purchase a bag of the scrabble letters from Target in the dollar section, the whole bag spelled out "You Complete Me" and it was $3.00. I purchased these because I have some mixed media art that I will be using them for, but for today, five of them will be for the little shelf sitter above.

When I shopped my house, I found a ton of usable frames, but most are so old that the frames hinge on being ugly, or in need of some repair. The one used in this project is little, it is 3x5" and was an old 1970's gold.
It's old and dirty and found in the back of the closet without use.

To make today's DIY project, I used a piece of cardstock(Hobby Lobby), a $1.00 bottle of blue chalk paint (Waverly from Walmart),1/2" glue dots(Michael's), Letters from (Target)
I love Glue Dots!
I get so much mileage out of this Chalk paint.

So I painted the frame and waited about 15 minutes until it was quite dry, (Sometimes I use a hairdryer to dry my paint because I am impatient) But today I painted it then went to finish my laundry and it was dry. I took a small corner of low grit sandpaper and sanded the edges and raised areas and I thought it was very cool that it turned out this way; with the gold just peeking through.

This is the card stock I chose, I turned it over and literally drew around the glass with pencil, and cut,
I did this just before painting the frame.

planning out the words

There were many ways I could've gone with the words, but I chose to keep it simple, as this project is simple. Above is what I have set up in my mind. I liked it. Once cut the card stock needed no adhesion as it fits perfectly into the frame. I think this would've have been cute with white chalk paint too, but I stuck with the blue.

After lining up the scrabble letters, I simply put one glue dot onto the back of each and voila! done.
so cute
This little shelf sitter could be used in a multi-tiered tray vignette perched on a countertop or island. Adorable ways to say happy valentine's day without heaps of money spent. Remember to shop your house and try to have a vision of turning something into something else, especially like this picture frame that was seriously collecting dust and definitely not being used for anything!   Have fun making this easy peasy craft!  Share yours in the comment section if you make one similar, I'd love to see it or even showcase it in an upcoming post!

Happy Valentine's Day.
