Dry Brushing Face: How to, Benefits, and Drawbacks
healthline.com

In the latest, beauty trends come the dry brushing and all the techniques and beauty benefits. Dry brushing has been around for a very long time and has been long used for medical, homeopathic, and Ayurveda techniques. But it has gone from health & wellness into the beauty department full force. People do have very serious conditions, including cancer, in which this treatment is used. They receive these types of massage as well as dry brushing that relate to the human lymphatic system and drainage of it. These are never cosmetic and performed by highly skilled technicians and should never be confused with the beauty department, but here we are.

Treatments

Treatments for serious medical conditions do include things like massage and dry brushing, but these are truly for the health of the patient and not for the "beauty of it". The patients actually have the treatments done to encourage the drainage of their Lymphatic system.

Beauty Department

In the beauty department, the benefits of dry brushing are highly touted. It is used for skin exfoliation, blood circulation, and revitalizing of the skin. Why it has caught on, is because one can do this technique in your home by yourself with just a few tools. The major component of this technique is the purchase of a soft-bristled brush. These are also usually made from natural sources.

Dry Brush How-To

Using the soft brush against the skin, using soft strokes in an upward motion on the limbs, and in a clockwise motion on the tummy, one can achieve this technique.

This chart shows in arrows how technical the dry brushing can be. Be aware and please seek out more information from professionals or doctors regarding the technique if you are going to use it for more than basic beauty, i.e. your legs and arms, etc.

Why It Works

Why this dry brushing works at all is because any massage of any kind generally encourages blood circulation, exfoliation removes dead skin, and then the application of lotions or oils simply softens the skin. Result: Happy Beauty Camper.

Health Claims and Buzz Words

I have written so many times that buzz words and catchphrases fuel the beauty and health industries. Please be aware that as you look for brushes, lotions, or other homeopathic remedies connected to the purchase or use of dry brushing, that you are aware that the advertisers will use what they can to "catch" your attention.

Any product or company that has claims of detox, weight loss, or cellulite cure is most likely using dry brush buzzwords. No one should be making medical claims if they are not a certified Lymphatic consultant, ever. While lotions and oils will create a softer looking skin, and massages create the glow you will get, these are only beauty benefits.

I have seen soft-bristle brushes anywhere from $3.00-up to $100.'s of dollars for kits. Please make a mindful choice when purchasing.  Enjoy this technique before or after a shower or a bath, and always remember to be an aware beauty shopper; watching for those fluffy buzz words.
