Beautiful Dreamer!

By Mary Caliendo Did you know there's something behind the saying "getting your beauty sleep"? It's true, there are many cosmetics & preparations out there that can make one look prettier or better, but did you know that sleep is beauty for your overall health? While most sleep centers would like the average person to get an ideal seven (7) to nine (9) hours of sleep per every twenty four (24) hours, however, the most sleep one can get the better. Sleep allows your body, mind, and organs to come to a "rest". It allows your body to de-stress itself and revive and get ready for the next upcoming day. Here's the ugly "low-down" on what can happen with short term sleeplessness: decreased memory cognitive impairment falls and trips & lack of of alertness negative stress impact driving impairment Here are some long-term risks: High Blood Pressure Stroke Heart attack Heart Failure Obesity depression fetal growth retard

Beautiful Self-Esteem

By Mary Caliendo Have you ever heard the saying "Everyone is beautiful in their own way?" Yes, I'm sure you have, so why is it that if we have all heard it a million times that we don't trust the saying? Most likely the reason we don't practice what we preach is because many times each day we are all reminded that it is a beautiful thing to be beautiful. The beautiful people get more things, they get better jobs, they find better partners (or find partners at all), and quite simply the people that are "better looking" just have a better time in life in general. It is time for that to change! "Everyone is beautiful in their own way" and we need to pass this very important bit of information to our little children and especially to the little girls coming up. I was impacted greatly when I went to visist a large manufacturer of beauty and beauty-related products. This manufacturer is proud to say their industry, the industry of beauty stinks! And

Lip Care

By Mary Caliendo Having beautiful lips shouldn't be so difficult. We need to treat our lips as we do our facial skin each day. According to the Academy of Dermatology, our lips do not contain oil glands and that in turn can cause them to become dry and chapped. The academy goes on to remind us that it does not have to be winter to have chapped lips . Simple things like overly licking lips , exposure to wind, and even exposure to sun can cause chapped lips . Here is a couple of simple things that can help you avoid getting chapped lips . Starting with the simplest of all, quit licking your lips (I don't know about you, but my mother would holler at me). In the age of sunscreens for your body; get one for your lips and don't leave home with out it on! Purchase a lip balm that contains an SPF. Be certain that

Water is a Beautiful Thing!

By Mary Caliendo Want a quick refreshing dose of beauty? Jump in the pool! Yes! Hit the pool for a great workout. Water is relaxing, refreshing and fun. Exercise helps us maintain our beautiful selves, and water is just another way to get your exercise. It is nothing new, but often overlooked as a viable way to maintain your level of fitness. Water exercise based classes at clubs used to be touted as classes for recovering injured, the elderly, or for people with chronic illness such as arthritis. But no more, aqua aerobic fitness classes are springing up all over the place! Water uses no gravity as exercise on land does. While you will not get the benefits of weight-training by using free weights in water (though there are weights for the water), water does provide so much more. Water is actually heavier than air, and is all around you when you are swimming. While you don't feel heavy, your movements are not restricted but you have resistance all around you. And with little or n

Your Skin Beauty

Image
By Mary Caliendo Your Beauty is skin deep. Here's a small guide for your skin through the stages and ages of your life. In your teens and early 20's it is very important that you take care of yourself. As with everything in your future, your health and your beauty starts early. When you are young and looking into the mirror, you don't immediately see a 50 year old self looking back at you. But your old bad habits will show up when you are older, and unfortunately it will show up on your face. In this age category you will get pimples here and there, or you will get acne. In your young teens and 20's your glands just overproduce oil and thus pimples. Please don't use harsh chemicals to zap them, your skin is delicate at this time and will not need those harsh very adult remedies . Instead, use gentle washes at bedtime, and apply a moisturizer. Look for a lotion that contains an SPF of 15 or above. Make sure also that it contains UVA and UVB sun protect
